Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere: An Amazing Church

The Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere was constructed between the years 1872 and 1876 in the top of Fourviere hill in Lyon. It was built based on the baroque style of that epoch and it provides a beautiful view of the city of Lyon to the visitors. It was built to follow and keep the order of the Roman Catholic Church after the Prussian beat of the Gallo country in 1870. This basilique is very similar to the Basilique Sacre Coeur in Paris.

This amazing church was designed by the architect Pierre Bossan on an ancient Roman forum next to the already built Chapel of the Vierge. It is decorated very richly to demonstrate the power of the church. The church may be seemed from almost all the points of the city of Lyon.

The basilica is decorated with beautiful stained glass windows, colored mosaics and a very old chapel that is next to the church. If you desire to have an almost whole view of the city of Lyon all you have to do is climb 287 stairs to get to the observatory of the basilica. You can also enjoy walking through the gardens of Rosaire.

The basilica is located on the 8 Pl. de Fourviere, Lyon France and it opens all the days of the week from eight to noon and from two to six. If you go to France and you have the chance, visit this amazing church.
