"Mirror of Time" at the Museum of Fine Arts in Rouen, May 19-August 20, 2006


“Mirror of Time” is an exceptional exhibit taking placing in Rouen in 2006. This exhibit, which will take place at the Musée des Beaux Arts from May 19-August 20, 2006, will highlight some of the most important and famous works from the celebrated museums of Florence, Italy, all selected the illustrate the artistic revolution that began in Europe in the Middle Ages.

This exhibit is made up of 80 paintings, sculptures and objets d'art, with discussion points chosen on the representation of the man and of his place in the world. The art of the portrait occupies a central place in this exhibit, with a dazzling array of masterpieces from the Renaissance. All the masters are represented – Botticelli, Lorenzo di Credi, Jacopo Zucchi. By the 17th century, ancient and biblical scenes are realistically represented, as is expressed in the works of Furini, Lorenzo Lippi and Palma Giovane. And the 18th century brought the popularity of self-portraits, as expressed by Solimena and Pompeo Batoni. The exhibit finishes off with neoclassicism, illustrated by some news classics such as the sculpture of Lorenzo Bartolini or the self-portrait of Angelica Kauffmann.

For more information on the Musée des Beaux Arts in Rouen, visit rouen-musees.com. The museum is located on the Esplanade Marcel-Duchamp. The hours of operation are 10:00 am-6:00 pm except on Tuesdays and public holidays. Admission for the exhibition is 7€, reduced admission is 5€. Free for children under 18 months. Admission to the museum and the exhibit is 9€, 6€ reduced admission.
