France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. Saint-Pierre is the third-largest commune in the French overseas department of Reunion. It is located on the southwest side of the island of Reunion. In the 1999 census, Saint-Pierre had a population of 68,915 inhabitants. The agglomeration of Saint-Pierre, including the neighboring commune of Le Tampon, has a total population of 129,238 inhabitants, which the second-largest in Reunion. Reunion is also one of the 26 regions of France with the same status as those situated on the European mainland. As part of France, Reunion is part of the European Union and thus the currency used is the euro.
