Saint-Martin-d'Heres is a commune in the department of Isere and the Rhone-Alpes region of France. It is the largest suburb of the city of Grenoble and is adjacent to it on the east. According the 1999 census, Saint-Martin-d'Heres had a population of 35,777 people. Isere is a department in the east of France named after the Isere River. Isere is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from part of the former province of Dauphine. Its area has been reduced twice, in 1852 and again in 1967.
