Saint-Herblain is a commune of the Loire-Atlantique department in the Pays de la Loire region of France. It is the largest suburb of the city of Nantes, and lies adjacent to its west side. In the 1999 census Saint-Herblain had a population of 43,726, and is twinned with Waterford City in Ireland, where a housing estate is named after the suberb, St Herblain Park. Loire-Atlantique formerly known as Loire-Inferieure is a department on the west coast of France named after the Loire River and the Atlantic Ocean. Loire-Inferieure was one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790.
