Saint-Benoit is a commune in the French overseas department of Reunion. It is located on the eastern part of the island of Reunion, about 40 kilometers southeast of Saint-Denis, the prefecture or administrative center. In the 1999 census, Saint-Benoit had a population of 31,560 people. Reunion is an island and overseas department of France, located in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar, about 200 kilometers to the southwest of Mauritius, the nearest island. Arab sailors used to call this island Dina Morgabin. The Portuguese were the first Europeans to visit the island, finding it uninhabited in 1513, and naming it Santa Apollonia.
