Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of the European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.

Saint-Andre is the sixth-largest commune in the French overseas department of Reunion. It is located on the northeast part of the island of Reunion. In the 1999 census, Saint-Andre had a population of 43,174 people. Reunion is an island and overseas department of France, located in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar, about 200 kilometers southwest of Mauritius, the nearest island. Arab sailors used to call this island Dina Morgabin. The Portuguese were the first Europeans to visit the island, finding it uninhabited in 1513, and naming it Santa Apollonia.
