Rodez is a city and community in southern France, in the Aveyron department and was the historic capital of Rouergue. The city’s population as per the 1999 census was 23,707, and the density in 1999 was 2,120 per square kilometers. Rodez is an episcopal city since the 4th century, featuring an impressive 80 meter tall cathedral. One of its specificities is a totally closed western wall. Indeed this face was part of the city's defence wall. Rodez is by tradition an agricultural trade center. Rodez is served by the close by Rodez Marcillac Airport, situated on the territory of the commune of Salles-la-Source.
