Ris-Orangis is a community in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is situated 22.6 kilometers from the center of Paris. The city’s population as per the 1999 census was 24,436, land area is 8.71 square kilometers and density in 1999 was 2,806 per square kilometer. The community of Ris-Orangis was formed in 1793 by the merger of the commune of Ris with the commune of Orangis. The town hall of the commune is located in Ris. The city is served by three stations on Paris RER line D that include Ris-Orangis, Grand-Bourg, and Orangis Bois de l'Epine. The French department of Essonne is part of the region of Ile-de-France and is named after the Essonne River. It was formed on January 1, 1968 with the split of the Seine-et-Oise department.
