Orange




France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.

Orange is a town and commune in the department of Vaucluse, in the south of France. It has a population of 27,989 people, with a primarily agricultural economy. It is located at 44 degrees 08 minutes north and 4 degrees 48 minutes east, about 21 kilometers north of Avignon. It is the warmest city in France, if the average temperature is considered. The land area is of 74.2 square kilometers with a population in 2006 of 28,889 and density in 1999 of 377 square kilometers.
 
The town is renowned for its Roman architecture. It possesses the best preserved Roman theatre in Europe, as well as a particularly fine triumphal arch, both built during the reign of Augustus. The arch, theatre and surroundings were listed in 1981 by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as a World Heritage Site. Roman Orange was founded in 35 BC by veterans of the Second Gallica Roman legion as Arausio, or Colonia Julia Firma Secundanorum Arausio in full, the Julian colony of Arausio established by the soldiers of the second legion.
 
In culture, in 1869 the Roman theatre, the Theatre antique d'Orange, was restored and has been the site of a music festival. The festival, given the name Choregies d'Orange in 1902 has existed annually ever since, and is now famous as an international opera festival. The Vaucluse is a department in the southeast of France. A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, luxurious hotels and cottages, Orange is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
