Nogent-sur-Marne is a commune in the eastern suburbs of Paris, France located 10.6 kilometers from the centre of Paris. Nogent-sur-Marne is a sub-prefecture of the Val-de-Marne department, being the seat of the Arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Marne. It is one of the most densely populated municipalities in Europe. The Land area is 2.80 square kilometers with a population in 1999 census of 28,191 and density of 10,068 per square kilometers.
 
In the seventeenth century, whereas the rural population was made up of a majority of vine growers, the middle-class discovered the charms of the country, and settled in Nogent. Jean-Antoine Watteau lived in Mr. Lefevre's house his last moments and died there in 1721. Val-de-Marne is a French department and was named after the Marne River, located in the Ile-de-France region, in Paris west.
