Yerres




France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.
 
Yerres is a commune in the southeastern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 18.3 kilometers from the center of Paris. Yerres lies in the Northeastern part of Essonne and bordering the Val-de-Marne department. The town extends on both sides of the valley through which the River Yerres flows The highest point is the wooded Mont Griffon, which reaches an altitude of 116 meters, while the lowest point is at only 30 meters above sea level. It has an altitude of 32 to 116 meters. Its land area is 9.84 kilometers. Its population in1999 census was 27,455 and density is 2,790 per kilometers.

In 1860 the father of Gustave Caillebotte bought an estate on the banks of the river Yerres and the famous impressionist painted around 80 paintings there, until the sale of the estate in 1879. Yerres is served by Yerres station on Paris RER, Reseau Express Regional line D. The first parish of Yerres could well date back to the 12th century. At that time a wooden church stood on the spot where the current church building stands. Throughout the years the church had different saint patron, Saint Loup, Saint Vincent.  The church that can be seen in the town centre was probably built in the 13th century but later modified. Due to its many historic events and places it has been one of the favorite destinations of visitors. Yerres, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
