Versailles

France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of the European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.

Versailles formerly the de facto capital of the kingdom of France, is now a wealthy suburb of Paris and is still an important administrative and judicial center. The City of Versailles, located in the western suburbs of Paris and at about 17.1 kilometers far away from the center of Paris, is the prefecture of the Yvelines department. The population of the city according to 2000 estimates was 856,900 inhabitants, down from a peak of 94,145 inhabitants in 1975. Versailles is made world-famous by the Chateau de Versailles, from the forecourt of which the city has grown with a land area of 26.18 kilometers. Yvelines is a French department in the region of Ile-de-France.

Presently, Versailles experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of France. Versailles, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place.
