Valenciennes

France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.

Valenciennes is a town and commune in northern France in the North department on the Escaut River. While the city and region had seen a steady decline between 1975 and 1990, it has since rebounded. As of 1999, the commune has a population of 41,278 while the metropolitan area numbers 399,677. This renewed growth is particularly notable for Valenciennes, as well as some suburbs. The total area is of 13.84 square kilometers and its population in 1999 estimated was 41,278 and density is 2983 per square kilometers.

Valenciennes is historically renowned for its lace. Until the 1970s, the main industries were steel and textiles. Since their decline, reconversion attempts focus mainly on automobile. In 2001, Toyota built its Western European assembly line for the Toyota Yaris. Valenciennes was picked as the European Railway agency headquarters in December of 2003.

Valenciennes is a city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages. It is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
