Mont-de-Marsan is a commune of France, capital of the Landes department. The Land area is 36.88 square kilometers and its population in 1999 was 29,489 with density of 800 square kilometers. Mont-de-Marsan was the birthplace of Alain Juppe who was born in 1945, a politician, who was Prime Minister of France. Landes is a departement in southern France. Historically, Landes was part of Gascony. It was one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from parts of the provinces of Guyenne and Gascony.
