The city was the birthplace of several actresses like Brigitte Fossey, Brigitte Lahaie, Joseph-Charles Lefebvre, bishop of Bourges, Marcel Lefebvre, traditionalist archbishop, and the composer, Albert Roussel. The city is also the birthplace of twin towns such as Berlin in Germany, Biella in Italy, Bottrop in Germany, Guimaraes in Portugal, Jastrzebie Zdroj in Poland, Mouscron in Belgium, Muhlhausen in Germany and Rochdale in United Kingdom.
