Tarbes
France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. Tarbes is a French town and commune, in the department of Hautes-Pyrenees, of which it is the prefecture. It is part of the historical region of Gascony and is the second largest metropolitan area of Midi-Pyrenees, with 110,000 inhabitants. Hautes-Pyrenees is a department in southwestern France. The total area is of 15.33 square kilometers and its population 46,275 with density 3,019 per square kilometers.
The 2006 Tour de France departed from Tarbes, for one of its stages. Tarbes Gespe Bigorre is the main sport team of the town as a female basketball team taking part to the French League and European competitions. Tarbes is twinned with Huesca, Spain and Altenkirchen, Germany.
