Sete




France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. It is a member of the European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation.

Sete is one of most popular destinations in France, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments. It is a commune situated in the Herault department and a port on the Mediterranean Sea. Built upon and around Mont St Clair, Sete is located on the south-eastern hub of the Bassin de Thau, an enclosed salt water lake used primarily for oyster and mussel fields. It is also the eastern starting point of the Canal du Midi.
 
Initially called as Cette until 1927, the village of Sete started growing with the completion of the Canal du Midi in 1681. However, today it has grown to a total land area of 34.20 square kilometers and a population of 40,220 inhabitants. The industrial development in and around the city has been a determining factor for its economic growth and population and although the industry is losing force in the last decades, the might of the sector services continues attracting new inhabitants in the city.
 
Sete is also historically important as it was the birthplace of Paul Valery who was a renowned author and poet of the Symbolist school, and Georges Brassens who singer and songwriter. It is also a city known for its traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages. Presently, it has grown as one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
