Sens




France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. It is a member of the European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation.

Sens is one of most popular destinations in France, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments. It is a town in the Bourgogne region of the Yonne department, of which it is a sous-prefecture. Yonne was named after the Yonne River and is one of the four constituent departments of Burgundy in eastern France.

According to precious archeological findings, it can be affirmed that Sens was first populated during the Roman era. It was a Roman Catholic archdiocese comprising the department of the Yonne. The Archdiocese of Sens, which perhaps became a metropolitan see at the middle of the fifth century, until 1622 numbered seven suffragan bishoprics. In 1622, Paris having been raised to a metropolitan see, the Sees of Chartres, Orleans and Meaux were separated from the Archdiocese of Sens.
