L'Hay-les-Roses

France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.

L'Hay-les-Roses is a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, a French departement situated on the banks of the river Seine in north-central France. It is located 8.5 kilometer or 5.3 miles from the center of Paris. L'Hay-les-Roses is a sous-préfecture of the Val-de-Marne département, being the seat of the Arrondissement of L'Hay-les-Roses. L'Hay-les-Roses owes the second part of its name to a famous rose garden located there. As of 1999, the population of L'Hay-les-Roses stood at 29,660 within an area of 3.9 square kilometers and had a population density of 7,605 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The commune of L'Hay-les-Roses was originally called simply L'Hay. The name was recorded for the first time in a charter of Charlemagne in 798 as Laiacum, sometimes also spelt Lagiacum, meaning estate of Lagius, a Gallo-Roman landowner. The name was later corrupted into Lay, Lahy, and eventually L'Hay.

L'Hay-les-Roses is served by no station of the Paris Metro, RER, or suburban rail network. The closest station to L'Hay-les-Roses is Bourg-la-Reine station on Paris RER line B. This station is located in the neighboring commune of Bourg-la-Reine, 1.7 kilometer or 1.1 miles from the town center of L'Hay-les-Roses.
