Le Mans




France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. It is a member of the European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation.

Le Mans is one of most popular destinations in France, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments. It is a city in that is located on the Sarthe River and is the prefecture or the capital of the Sarthe department. The city lies in the territory of the province of Gallia Lugdunensis. The inhabitants of the city are called as Manceaux and Mancelles.

First mentioned by Ptolemy, the Roman city Vindinium was the capital of the Aulerci, a client tribe of the Aedui. Le Mans is also identified as the town known as Civitas Cenomanorum which means city of the Cenomani. Le Mans’ memorials are the hypotheses to decipher that include an amphitheatre which was built in the 3rd century which is still visible. Le Mans also has a well-preserved old town called as Vieux Mans and a cathedral named after Saint Julien, who was honored as the city's first bishop. There are also remnants of a Roman wall in the old town and Roman baths by the river.
