Le Bouscat is a commune in the department of Gironde and the Aquitaine region of France. It is a suburb of the city of Bordeaux and is adjacent to it on the north side. Thus, it is a member of the metropolitan Urban Community of Bordeaux. According to the 1999 census, Le Bouscat had a population of 22,455 people.
 
Gironde is a department in the southwest of France named after the Gironde Estuary. Gironde was one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from parts of the former provinces of Guyenne and Gascogne. From 1793 to 1795, the name was changed to Bec-d'Ambes to avoid the association with the revolutionary party, the Girondins.
