La Valette-du-Var is a commune in the department of Var and the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region of France. It is located in the metropolitan Communaute d'agglomeration Toulon Provence Mediterranee and is northeast of the city of Toulon. According to the 1999 census, La Valette-du-Var had a population of 21,739 people.
 
Var is a department of southeastern France. Var was formed in 1790 of a part of Lower Provence, but in 1860 it was reduced by the transfer of the district of Grasse to the newly formed department of the Alpes-Maritimes, which is why the Var River does not now flow in the department to which it gives its name. The Var is also famous for its wine production.
