Herouville-Saint-Clair
France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. Herouville-Saint-Clair is a town and commune of the Calvados department and Basse-Normandie region in northwestern France. It is a suburb of the city of Caen and lies adjacent to it in a northeasterly direction. Its inhabitants are called Herouvillais. Herouville was the commune name until 1957.
Herouville-Saint-Clair experienced a very fast development which made it the most populous suburb of Caen. A simple village at the beginning of 1960, the commune passed from fewer than 2,000 inhabitants to almost 25,000 in less than fifteen years. This figure has varied little since 1975. The canton of Herouville-Saint-Clair includes only part of the commune. It has a population of 18,607 people. The other part belongs to the canton of Caen-Herouville.
Herouville-Saint-Clair is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
