Grasse




France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.
           
Grasse is a town in the southeast corner of France and a commune of the Alpes-Maritimes department. The French Riviera Ecclesiastical history includes the middle of the thirteenth century. The see of Antibes was relocated to Grasse and the Bishops of Grasse worthy are Cardinal Agostino Trivulzio from 1537 to 1648. The poet, Antoine Godeau was one of the most celebrated habitues of the Hotel de Rambouillet. There he was nicknamed as Julia's dwarf due to his small stature.
 
The arrondissement of Grasse was separated from the diocese of Frejus in 1886 and given to the bishopric of Nice. It unites the three previous Dioceses of Nice, Grasse and Vence. The Grasse department is Alpes-Maritimes and the Alpes-Maritimes is a department in the southeast corner of France. The Romans had a province known as Maritimae as early as year 700. Its capital was Cemenelum, today Cimiez, a neighborhood in the north of Nice. At its largest in 297, this province extended toward Digne and Briancon and its capital was Embrun.
