Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French.

Gap is a town in France and a capital of the Hautes-Alpes department. Geographically it is situated at the intersection of D994 and Route Nationale 85. Gap lies 2,406 feet above the sea level along the right bank of the Luye River. It was founded by the Gauls when the Roman emperor Augustus seized the town and renamed it Vapincum. It was annexed by the French crown in 1512. Gaps religious history includes the Catholic diocese, a suffragan of Aix. It includes the department of the Hautes-Alpes and is suppressed by the Concordat of 1801.

Gap was united to Digne and re-established in 1822 besides the ancient diocese. The name of this last metropolitan has been absorbed in the title of the Archbishop of Aix. The diocese of Gap possesses two places of pilgrimage, Notre-Dame d'Embrun at Embrun. Here Charlemagne built a basilica, visited by Pope Leo III and Kings Henry II of France and Louis XVIII, who led an image of Notre-Dame d'Embrun. The other is that of Notre-Dame du Laus, where during fifty-four years, the blessed Virgin appeared for many times to a shepherdess, Venerable Benoite Rencurel.

Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. Gap enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
