Epernay




France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. Epernay is a town in northern France and is a Sous-prefecture of the Marne department. It belonged to the archbishops of Reims from the 5th to the 10th century, when it came in possession of the counts of Champagne. It was ruined during the hundred year’s war, and was burned by Francis I in 1544. It opposed Henry of Navarre in 1592 and Marshal Biron fell in the attack which led its ultimate capture. In 1642, it was along with Chateau-Thierry, named as a duchy and allocated to the duc de Bouillon.
 
Epernay is located 88 miles from Paris on the main line of the Eastern railway to Strasbourg. It is located on the left bank of the Marne River at the edge of the Cubry valley that crosses it. Epernay is well known as the principal entrepot for champagne wines. They are bottled and stored in big cellars made in the chalk rock on which the town is constructed. The creation of the equipment and raw materials used in the champagne industry is a chief source behind local employment. Brewing and sugar refinery and the manufacture of hats and caps are also important industries.
