Clichy-sous-Bois is a commune in the eastern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 15.8 kilometers from the center of Paris. The 2005 Paris suburb riots originated in Clichy-sous-Bois. The commune has an area of 3.95 square kilometers with 1.1 square kilometers of woods. The woods are remnants of the Bondy forest. Population of the city at the 1999 census was 28,288 and land area of Clichy-sous-Bois is 3.95 square kilometers.
As part of the banlieue, Clichy-sous-Bois has a high unemployment rate. The incidence of violent crime in Seine-Saint-Denis is among the highest in France. The Clichy-sous-Bois synagogue had been attacked in October 2001, and again in August 2002. The Paris suburb riots of October 2005 originated in Clichy-sous-Bois and spread to other communes of the departement and virtually every major city in France.
Clichy-sous-Bois is served by no station of the Paris Metro, RER, Reseau Express Regional which means Network Regional Express or suburban rail network. The closest station to Clichy-sous-Bois is Le Raincy Villemomble Montfermeil station on Paris RER line E. This station is located in the neighboring commune of Le Raincy, 3.2 kilometers from the town center of Clichy-sous-Bois. The only direct transportation in and out of Clichy-sous-bois is the 601AB bus.
