Caluire-et-Cuire

France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometres, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.

Caluire-et-Cuire is a town and commune of the Rhone department and the Rhone-Alpes region of France. It is the third-largest suburb of the city of Lyon, and lies adjacent to its north side. It is a component commune of the metropolitan Urban Community of Lyon. In the 1999 census, Caluire-et-Cuire had a population of 41,233.

Rhone is a French departement located in the central Eastern region of Rhone-Alpes. It is named after the Rhone River. The Rhone department was created on August 12, 1793 when the former departement of Rhone-et-Loire was split into two departments. Originally, the eastern border of Rhone was the city of Lyon itself, so that the communes immediately east of Lyon belonged to neighboring departments. With the growth of Lyon and the spilling of the urban area over the suburban communes of Lyon, the limits of the departement were judged impractical as they left the suburbs of Lyon outside of Rhone.

The area of the Rhone department increased from 2,791 square kilometers to the current 3,249 square kilometers. At the 1999 French census, the original Rhone department would have had only 1,071,288 inhabitants, which means that the population in the territories added in the last two centuries was 507,581 inhabitants in 1999. A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, luxurious hotels and cottages, Caluire-et-Cuire is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
