Cachan

France, officially the French Republic, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in Western Europe and comprises various overseas islands and territories which are located in other regions. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. At 674,843 square kilometers, France is the world's 40th-largest country after Myanmar. France is a member of The European Union and Paris is the capital of this nation. The sole official language of France is French. Since prehistoric times, France has been a crossroads of trade, migrations, and invasions.

Cachan is a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located at about 6.7 kilometers far away from the center of Paris. The Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan is located there. During the middle ages, Cachan was referred to in Medieval Latin texts as Caticantum, later corrupted into Cachentum, Cachant and then Cachan. Some understand Caticantum as meaning singing of the cat, mewing of the cat, but this is not certain. Some others see a connection with the verb to hunt.

Cachan was originally a hamlet within the commune of Arcueil, later renamed Arcueil-Cachan. The commune of Cachan was created on December 26, 1922 when it seceded from the commune of Arcueil-Cachan, which was renamed back to Arcueil. Cachan is served by two stations of Arcueil-Cachan and Bagneux on Paris Railway line B.

Presently, Cachan experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of France. Cachan, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place.
